THE TROUT DERBY A FUN TIME FOR A GOOD CAUSE!

The money raised at the Trout Derby gets puts back into the community in
support of many good causes. Although the Derby is not the only fund raising
activity the Wellsville Lions Charities Inc. have it is the biggest. Listed below
are the committee expenditures for 2010 - 2011. While the list does not include
everything that was spent it will give you a good idea of what you are supporting
when you enter the Derby or sponsor a fish.
1) Civic Improvement $2,644 - Supports activities that will help the general
community. Some examples are: Chairs for the library, Wlsv Middle School J.U.M.P.
Club clean up, Funds to help purchase a computer for the Nathaniel Dyke Museum,
Music On The Lawn, 18th annual Ridgewalk & Run A new gate at the town park.
2) Health & Welfare $4,200 - H&W will help people pay for medical supplies if they
can not afford it as things like, Colors For Life, the ambulance service, Variety Kids
Telethon.
3) Scholarship $5,000 - Every year the Lions award three scholarships to high
school students toward their college degree.
4) Major Projects $11,700 - This committee spends money on special projects. This
past year the we paid for redoing the pavilion posts in the park, and a new score
board for the high school gym.
5) Youth Activities $3.150 - Supports activities such as youth sports, and
organizations such as the Boy & Girl Scouts, Odyssey of the Mind, the Montessori
School, various youth sport activities, and Shop With A Cop.
6) World Service Day $699.76 - Sponsors a dinner for senior citizens.
7) Sight Activities $1,274.99 - Helps those with vision problems by buying glasses
and paying for visits to the doctor. Also supports organizations such as Leader Dog,
and Blind Assoc. Of WNY.
8) Sight First II $4,000 - Supports world wide endeavor for prevention of blindness.
9) Camp Badger $1,500 - The Lions camp for children with problems with sight and
diabetes.
10) Unplanned $100 - During the year needs arise that exceed the budgets of the
committees or do not fall directly into a specific committee. This is where the money
comes from.
11) Speech $125 - Support for Finger Lakes Hearing foundation.
12) Diabetes $600 - Support for Diabetes Camp
